New Year's Resolutions: A Healthy Life

Every year, I make some dramatic New Year's resolution to the point that it gets ridiculous (and my sister makes fun of me), but that doesn't stop me. I still looked at my husband and made an absurd statement that this year, that I'm really, REALLY going to try to exercise regularly. Now, this has been a goal of mine literally since high school. And I'm almost 28, so it's beyond sad, since most people manage to do this everyday without fanfare. However, I'm not most people. Nonetheless, I am going to give it a serious go this year, since I've been eating one two many Christmas cookies for too long. I'm also going to try to eat more fruits and veggies. It won't get too crazy though; it might just be simply adding frozen asparagus to a meal of mac and cheese. Small changes though, right?

Healthier resolutions are the best ones. I find if I have a gym buddy, that I have no problem going regularly. Maybe drag a friend along or even the hubby :P

I'm right there with you on the exercising! I'm really going to try harder this year. Fingers crossed we both can do it :)

I need to make this resolution too! It's hard but maybe even just to work out three days a week would be a good goal.

Absolutely. I believe that as long as there's progress, we are moving in the right direction. I spent years berating myself for not doing things just perfectly, and then rebelling and stopping altogether.

Now I am ok with babysteps and with leaps and bounds, as long as there's progress.

Happy New year!! here's to both of us sticking with regular exercise this year ;-)

I'm with you! I haven't had a "regular" workout routine in about a year. That will be changing though. I'm getting back in gear with my regular routine! GOOD LUCK!

I agree with you--small changes over time can add up to big changes! I used to be an exercise fanatic and ate very healthy, but when life gets busy, it's always easier to not make health and wellness a priority, so right now I'm with you, I'm working my way back into regular exercise and more fruits and veggies this new year!

I used to NEVER work out, but then I packed on an absurd amount of weight in college and was forced to. Now (80+ lbs. of weight loss later), it's an almost daily part of my routine. I just make myself do it (elliptical, treadmill, Pilates, jumping rope, walking the dog -- anything to get moving, even if just for 20-30 minutes). I feel great and look better than I ever have and all it took was realizing that it just HAD to be a daily thing. Good luck. You can do it!
