This weekend, I had to stop by the mall to return a pair of shoes that didn't work for the husband, so I stopped by C.Wonder to check out their sale. Fortunately for the husband, I spent most of the weekend cleaning and organizing, so I was probably a little more thoughtful with my purchases.
I was tempted by this cheeseboard, but since we already have one, I refrained. I've blogged about this before, so you know it was tough to walk away.
One thing I did purchase a few months ago is this helmet, and I think it would be a great deal if you are in need of one. Thanks to the husband's love of capital bike share, I really did and I'm glad I have one.
I also stopped by Ann Taylor, since they were having a 50% off sale. I picked up this purse, but I'm still trying to figure out if I want to keep it or not. It was forty dollars and I thought it would be nice for work. What do you think?
It seems like this week is going by so quickly, which is never a bad thing. Last weekend was a little busier than we are used to, but it was fun. On Friday night, the husband hosted a few people from his work for a poker night. We rented our community room, and I helped him set up the spread. Even though I didn't cook anything, just getting everything assembled took a decent amount of time, but I think it turned out well.
I love cheese plates, so I pulled one together.
We served chicken, but we also had a sandwich station, which apparently is a tradition.
My favorite was how the desserts turned out. Whole Foods has such cute ones. We happened to have the napkins on hand, and I thought they were fun.
On Saturday, we were able to visit with another couple, and we finally met their little girl (who is absolutely adorable). The husband's mom and grandmother were also in town, so we visited them on Saturday, and they also came over on Sunday. My MIL brought us her steam cleaner to borrow, so Sunday night the husband started working on our carpets. Sadly, they were definitely in need of some help, and I'm happy to report that they now look substantially better! After a weekend of entertaining and cleaning, I feel that our apartment is cleaner than it has ever been in a really long time. What are your favorite things to do when you have people over? I always care about the desserts and a cheese plate, because those are my favorite things to eat!
Even though we spent less than 24 hours in NYC, I feel we were able to really make the most of our time. Wednesday evening we went to the MoMa, and it was such a fun event.
The husband and I don't really have too much appreciation for modern art though, and we didn't really appreciate this exhibit. (The idea is that since the shovel and bike wheel are rendered useless then it makes you think of ordinary pieces as art.)
The next day I went to the Met while the husband was in meetings, and I really enjoyed it. I concentrated most of my time in the Egypt and Roman wings.
It's amazing how they transform entire spaces so completely.
On my walk back, I saw the Lilly Pulitzer townhouse, but I didn't have time to stop.
I did make sure I stopped by Laduree. I am definitely a sucker for packaging.
I picked up some macaroons and we opened them up on the plane ride home.
We enjoyed them when we got home.
It was such an enjoyable trip, and I am so glad that I had a chance to visit the Big Apple!
Tomorrow afternoon, I'm heading to NYC for an event at the husband's work. I'm pretty excited that I took the time off, because the husband has been in NYC since Sunday evening, so this breaks up the week. The first time I went to this event was five years ago, and I was so intimidated by the city, but now I'm just looking forward to enjoying myself. I took off Thursday, and I am looking forward to some shopping in SoHo. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm open to ideas!
We had some beautiful weather this weekend, so we finally made it up to Great Falls! I'd heard so much about it, that I really wanted to go see it. Even though the weather was perfect, the water was really muddy, evidently from all the rain that we have had.
On Sunday afternoon, we tried to go canoeing on the Potomac, but the water level was too high, so we decided to go to the zoo instead! Even though we've been to the zoo a few times, we've never seen the pandas. They were eating when we walked through their habitat, and it was so cute. I really learned a lot from the exhibit (I had no idea how tiny pandas are when they are first born), and it was definitely the highlight. Aren't they so cute?
I didn't make it to my parents' house for Father's Day, since we were just together in Florida earlier in the week. The husband was also getting ready for his work trip this week, so it was definitely good to have some time together at home. How was your weekend?
We had a great trip down to Florida, but the rest of this week has been squeezing in errands and chores that we usually do during the weekend. Since laundry and going to the grocery store aren't terribly exciting, I thought I'd share a little inspiration for the Fourth of July!
Well, I'm certainly glad to be at the end of this week! I was in charge of a few events for my work, and now that they are done, I feel like a lot of pressure is off of me and I can relax a bit. We are celebrating by going down to Florida this weekend to meet up with my parents and see my sister and her significant other.
Last night I painted my toes "mod square" and I feel like I'm ready for some fun in the sun!
We're planning on going snorkeling, at John Pennekamp Coral Reef Park, and I can't wait to be in the water.
