Rifle Paper Family Portrait

Awhile ago on Oh Joy!, I saw that her family had gotten a custom portrait done by Rifle Paper, and it is absolutely the cutest thingThe other day, when I was looking at the Rifle Paper website, I saw that they take custom orders.  Of course, it is super expensive, and there is no way I could convince the husband, but aren't they just so whimsical?
Would you ever do one?  It's definitely a splurge, but I think that family and friends would love seeing these little personalized cards.

Five for Friday!

Well, I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't do any other posting this week, but here are my Five for Friday!

1. I had a meeting with a caterer for our big spring event, and she gifted our office these lovely cookies.  Aren't they beautiful?
 2. I finally completed my last grad class.  Are you tired of hearing about it?  I know my poor husband is!  I was pregnant for the duration of this class, and I think maybe that is one reason why it has seemed to be a particular struggle.  Instead of doing work, I've wanted to be on Pinterest looking at baby things! Super relieved to have my exam and final projects behind me!

3. My sister sent me this beautiful card.  It makes me so happy to get snail mail and I was also happy to get some letters sent out in the mail this week!

4. With this nicer weather I've been able to take quick walks during my lunch break and it has been really great to have a few moments to regroup and enjoy the flowers.
 5. I'm looking forward to my trip to San Francisco!  I can't wait to try out some of your recommendations.  I'll be taking next week off from blogging, but I will be back in May (and hopefully I will be a bit better about blogging!).

What are you looking forward to this weekend?  It's crazy that we are already at the end of April!

Weekend Recap!

Happy Monday, everyone!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Ours was relatively busy, as we met up with friends on Saturday and Sunday.  I was really excited to see our friends, and it was also exciting because they have small children and were able to give us some advice about our little growing family.  Since we don't really have any experience, it's definitely nice to hear opinions about strollers, parenting and such.

Saturday afternoon we also decided to just take a quick walk to enjoy the weather a little bit more.  The tulips were out in all their glory!
I was also really excited about the launch of Lilly for Target this weekend.  Around midnight on Saturday, I realized that so was everyone else, so I decided to set my alarm early to go check out the store.  I was too tired to stay up late to check the website, so the husband volunteered to see if he could buy anything that I had my eye on.  At some point in the night, he woke me up to tell me that there was no need to go to the store because he had managed to get a few thingsI wanted online.  I was so excited and also super thankful that I wouldn't have to battle the crowds, because it looks like it was a little crazy.  It still seems too good to be true, so we will see what actually arrives, but regardless the husband's determination to buy some Target for Lilly things for me made my heart glad.

After the Lilly excitement and a visit with friends on Sunday, I also was able to get a little bit of work done  for my grad class.  I'm trying to get everything wrapped up before our trip to San Francisco!  How was your weekend?

Heading to San Francisco: Any Recommendations?

Last Friday night, the husband mentioned that he will be traveling to San Francisco for work, and we decided that I would buy a ticket to join him for a few days at the end of April.  I'm really excited as I've never been to California, but have always wanted to go.  I have big plans to visit Alcatraz Island, walk across part of the Golden Gate Bridge, ride on a cable car and see the Coit Tower.  Does anyone else have any recommendations or tips?  We will be there for about three days, so I will have the opportunity to hopefully see a few things!

Weekly Pregnancy Updates: 5-14 Weeks!

Thanks for all the sweet comments yesterday.  It really means a lot to me to share the news.  I know these can be kind of boring, but here are my notes from the first trimester.

I did these updates throughout the beginning of my pregnancy, and I'm really happy that I was able to record a few things.  I feel that you're so exhausted during the first trimester, so everything seems like it is a bit of a struggle.  I'm glad that at least these updates are somewhat organized so I can remember a few things!

How Far Along? 5 weeks

Size of Baby: Sesame Seed

Nursery:  We're so excited about everything and one of the first things that the husband mentioned was that maybe we need to find a new apartment.  We've been thinking about it though, and we think that we can stay in our current place. I'm excited about the challenge!

Symptoms:  None really.  I'm so excited that it's hard to concentrate.

Cravings:  Nothing unusual, just my sweet tooth!

What I Miss: Caffeine.  Just one cup of coffee might help me get through the day a bit better.

Best Moment This Week: I found out on Tuesday night and was beside myself with joy.  The husband was traveling on a business trip, so with the time difference he wasn't able to call me until 5:45am in the US on Wednesday.  I thought it would be bittersweet to tell him when he was so far away, but we are elated! Our phone conversations are pretty scattered, because we seem to be trying to think about everything at once.

On Thursday night, I Skyped with my sister and told her the news, since she would be traveling this weekend when the husband came back home.  It was so exciting to tell her.  On Saturday, we called my parents, the husband's parents and my brother and sister-in-law.  Everyone is so happy for us.

Looking Forward To:  Our first doctor's appointment!

How Far Along? 6 weeks

Size of Baby: Lentil

Nursery:  We are pretty set on staying in our apartment.  I've been thinking about some of the things that my parents might be willing to store (aka Christmas supplies and golf clubs).  I'm also trying to go through some of our belongings and declutter.  I spent a lot of time over the weekend on Pinterest just dreaming and planning.

Symptoms: I am tired, but no morning sickness yet, which makes me nervous.  It all seems so surreal.

Cravings:  I'm trying to focus on eating healthier now.  I can't believe that you have to eat 70 grams of protein! I did have mac and cheese for dinner one night, because that is the only thing that sounded good. Valentine's Day weekend was also a bit of a nutritional disaster.

What I Miss: Caffeine, but I think I would be tired anyways.

Best Moment This Week: My parents came up to visit, because they are so excited.  We are already starting to think about names and what we will need for our little one to be.  I'm relieved to have made it to the six week mark.

Looking Forward To:  The first doctor's appointment!  I still feel like this is all a dream, and I will feel so much better once everything is confirmed. I also want to do some weekly bump photos, but I haven't had enough energy to figure out something cute.
Valentine's Day cupcakes!
 How Far Along? 7 weeks

Size of Baby: Blueberry

Nursery:Still pinning lots of things and trying to gather ideas.

Symptoms:  Still feel really good except I am tired!

Cravings: Last week I tried to eat a lot of quinoa, but it was a bit of a disaster, in that it was the last thing ever I wanted to consume.  This week I made some veggie chilli, and it has hit the spot, plus reassured me about hitting my protein needs.  It seems that every week I have some new nutritional aspect that I obsess over.  The first week I felt guilty about the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, then I worried about protein, and now I am preoccupied by iron.  Even if you eat an entire container of spinach (which took me three days), it is only 15% of your daily requirements.

What I Miss: Caffeine, but I've just been adjusting by getting a decent amount of sleep every night.

Best Moment This Week: The doctor's appointment!  Everything was confirmed and it is starting to feel more real.

Looking Forward To:The end of the first trimester so we can share the news!

How Far Along? 8 weeks

Size of Baby:A blueberry!

Nursery: Still thinking about staying in our apartment and happily pinning images.

Symptoms: Definitely tired.  It's all I can do to get through work and finish my work for class.  We had a snow day and I didn't do too much; I was exhausted.

Sleep:  Still good. I think I'm becoming more of a morning person.

Cravings:Sugar and Chick Fila

What I Miss:Not much, I'm just so happy that everything is going well so far.

Best Moment This Week: On Friday night the husband and I talked about the pregnancy announcement.

Looking Forward To: The next doctor's appointment and the end of the first trimester!

How Far Along? 9 weeks

Size of Baby:A grape!

Nursery: Still just thinking about it!

Symptoms:  Just tired, but so far I've been so lucky.

Sleep:  Definitely making sure I get eight hours.

Cravings: Jelly beans, but I think that is just me around Easter time.

What I Miss: I could really go for a cup of coffee in the afternoon.

Best Moment This Week:The husband designed the pregnancy announcement, and it meant so much to me that he did it.

Looking Forward To:  Sharing the news with everyone!
How Far Along? 10 weeks

Size of Baby:A kumquat.

Nursery: Thinking that if we have a boy, I'd like to do a nautical theme and if it is a girl do soft pink and gray to match with our bedroom.

Symptoms:  Just tired

Sleep:  Definitely making sure I get eight hours and then some.

Cravings: Sugar and I also seem really thirsty all the time.

What I Miss: Caffeine, but I really can't complain.

Best Moment This Week:I visited my parents over the weekend and it really is nice to be able to talk with them about the baby.  When I came home, I was pretty tired and the husband had tidied up the apartment and bought fresh flowers.  It really meant so much to me.

Looking Forward To: Sharing the news; just two weeks to go!

How Far Along? 11 weeks

Size of Baby:A Brussels sprout!

Nursery: I still really don't have very clear ideas, which is kind of unusual for me.  I think once we know the gender, I will really start in earnest.

Symptoms:  Still tired, but I think it is the lack of caffeine.

Sleep:  Definitely making sure I get eight hours.

Cravings: None right now.

What I Miss:  I think things are going pretty well!

Best Moment This Week: I had my doctor's appointment on Friday, and I got to see the baby in more detail.  As the husband says, it's really starting to look like a baby!  During the ultrasound, you could also see the little feet.  It's definitely starting to feel more real!

Looking Forward To:Sharing the big news!

Some Spring News!

I've been waiting to tell you some happy news.  The husband and I are going to have a baby at the beginning of October!

Weekend Recap: A Spring Wedding!

This weekend was the perfect mix of productivity, relaxation and a little socialization.  On Saturday, I spent most of the day working on a big project for my class and then that evening the husband and I attended his friend's wedding in D.C.  They held it at Sequoia, and it was absolutely gorgeous! After the heart-felt ceremony, we moved upstairs for the cocktail hour and had an aerial view of the dinner being set up.
The cake was beautiful and also delicious.
We had a nice time visiting with some of the husband's friends from law school and it was overall a very festive time!  I was also super excited about the favor, which was a monogrammed Georgetown cupcake.  It was the perfect touch.
They are such a happy couple and I think that they are perfect for each other.  I was excited that we were able to witness their union and join in the celebrations!

On Sunday, I finished one of my big projects and then caught up on errands and chores around the house.  The husband and I also took a walk to enjoy the beautiful spring weather.

Now it's back to Monday!  How was your weekend?

Five for Friday!

To be honest, this week has been a bit of a blur, but here are my Five for Friday!
One, my mom sent me this card and I find it absolutely hilarious.  I was having a bit of a time when she sent it, and this card really made me smile.
Second, we have had some rainy days, but I'm starting to see signs of spring!
Third, tomorrow the husband and I are going to a friend's wedding. The husband's been working so late this week, that I haven't really seen him, so I'm especially looking forward to this!

Fourth, while most of this weekend is going to be spent working on a project for my grad class,  I'd like to freshen up our decor a bit for spring.  Isn't this print lovely?  So perfect for right now with the cherry blossoms making their debut.
Fifth is happy Friday!  I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Easter Weekend Recap!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend!  Ours was really nice, as my sister flew up to visit for the Easter weekend and my parents came up too.  I had to work pretty late on Friday night, so on Saturday morning I quickly tidied up the apartment and then my sister arrived!  We hung out for a little while and then made a quick trip to the grocery store to get supplies for Saturday's dinner and Sunday's brunch.  We kept things really easy and picked up Chick fil a for everyone for Saturday's lunch. We got back just in time with the groceries as my parents arrived!

My sister was really sweet and she bought me this beautiful tulip arrangement while we were out and about.
My mom also brought flowers, so it definitely was feeling festive!
We enjoyed visiting and for dinner that night I made salmon, asparagus and mashed potatoes.  Things have been pretty busy with work lately (hence the lack of posting), so I was really thankful that we kept things easy.  On Sunday, my sister and I also kept things simple, and we made waffles, the Pioneer Woman's Orange Vanilla fruit salad and some mini quiches.  The menu was almost identical to last year's, but for some reason felt easier.   I loved using my little bunny place holders.

We really had a nice time just being together.
While I was sad to see everyone leave, I was really thankful that we could have such a great visit!  How was your weekend?
