Weekend Recap: Pool Time!

SC and I are definitely on a "summer schedule" with lots of little road trips during the week, which means blogging has been even more sporadic than usual, I'm afraid. Somehow it is already Monday night, and I'm just getting around to posting!

We came back from a little trip on Friday, and proceeded to have a low-key weekend. On Saturday, one of my friends came over and we all hit up the pool.  SC thought the water of the outdoor pool was a little chilly.
Later that afternoon, we went to a family event with the husband's work, which was fun. The afternoon included bouncy houses, go karts and an ice cream truck, so lots of summer fun! SC stayed awake the entire time, and promptly fell asleep on the way home.
Sunday we decided that we finally needed to get on baby proofing, so took a quick trip to Target to begin the process.  Unfortunately, we still have a ways to go, but at least we are thinking about it.
We ended the afternoon with more pool time to round out the weekend!
Can you tell that it is our main summer activity?

My Monday had a fun surprise in that I got to see a friend and her two children who are visiting from their home in California  (she is one brave mama to travel with two little ones all by herself!).  It was so exciting to finally meet her baby and also see how her daughter had grown in the eight months it had been since we had seen them last!  I hope your week is off to a good start!

8 Months with Sarah Catherine!

Saturday was Sarah Catherine's eight month birthday! For some reason, this month seemed like a big one.
SC is starting to seem so much more independent. She isn't crawling yet, but is getting close. She can stand pretty well if we help her with her balance and seems to be pretty strong.  She holds her own bottle  and just generally is more mobile when there is something that catches her eye. We lowered the crib, but really can't delay all of the other baby proofing any longer!
Likes: She is still obsessed with putting everything she can in her mouth, and particularly likes the teething necklaces that I wear and Sophie the Giraffe.  She also loves the "indestructible" books that she can chew on.  We only have one, but it has definitely been well used. She also loves pool time and that has made her enjoy bath time more.  She continues to enjoy looking at herself in the mirror, and she is fascinated by running water.
Dislikes:  She takes a little while to warm up to strangers, but she does pretty well when family members hold her.  She wasn't a real fan of the nanny while the husband and I had our evening event, but she did okay.
Feedings:  It took me long enough, but I figured out that SC has a milk allergy.  I had cut out milk from my diet awhile ago, but we also switched formulas. She still has a little eczema on her legs, but it has definitely gotten better.  We have also been doing more with solids, and she has been trying out different fruits and veggies.  We are still a little slow, but she eats bananas, apples, peas, sweet potatoes, green beans, oatmeal, carrots, and pears.  She weighed in at 17.2 pounds a few weeks ago, so she is coming right along!
Sounds: She has started to say the "mmm" sound and also says "mama" when she is upset.  She doesn't know what the word means yet, but I am so thankful and excited that she is making some sounds!  We have also had lots more giggles, and SC seems to think it is absolutely hilarious when I kiss her belly or I make a stuffed animal "hop".
This month has been such a happy one and SC has been such a good little traveler on the different trips to visit grandma and grandpa and our big excursion to NYC!

Father's Day Weekend Celebrations!

I know no one is waiting on the edge of  his or her seat for the Father's Day weekend recap, but I didn't want it to end up being next weekend before I posted!  (I went down to visit my parents on Monday and Tuesday for a Father's Day celebration with my dad, hence the late post.) The husband is such a good father to SC and truly his new role has made our relationship even stronger. He works so hard for us, and dotes and cares for SC on a level I never even dreamed of.  Every day I am so thankful for him and our little family.
His mom and grandma came up to visit for the weekend, which was nice. On Saturday they arrived at dinner time, so I just made an easy bbq. Of course, SC was the star of the show.
On Sunday, we visited the National Gallery of Art and the Botanical Gardens. We all enjoyed the different exhibits, and when we came back, we took SC to the pool!
I made the husband's favorite salmon for dinner, and we had a nice time relaxing. SC helped the husband open up his  gifts. Apparently she also appreciates quality wrapping.
It was a great weekend, and I was happy we could celebrate all the amazing dads in our lives!

New York, New York!

This past Sunday, we headed up to NYC! We were both pretty anxious about how the trip would go with SC in tow, but she exceeded our expectations.  Apparently she is more of a city girl than her parents are!

Sunday afternoon we headed out from Union Station.  We thought about flying, but taking the train ended up being easier and we had more space, which was helpful.
After we got all settled in, we headed to Central Park to enjoy the beautiful day!
SC went on her first carousel ride, which was a really sweet memory for me. I don't think she cared one way or another, but her dad and I enjoyed the process.
She also played a little chess with her dad.
After our walk, we went to a burger place and picked up dinner.
That evening we headed to the M&M store and just enjoyed the bright lights of Times Square. On Monday, we switched hotels, and they let us check in early, just in time for SC's mid morning nap and feeding (I was so thankful for this!). SC was relieved to discover they have mirrors in NYC too.
And the beds seemed just as comfy as at home too!
After that I walked SC up Madison Avenue to Laduree.
Where I got an afternoon treat!
I then decided to check out the MoMa. I like some modern art, but this one exhibit made me laugh. It is a room of cardboard  designed to make us aware of our space.    Well, with a stroller and diaper bag, I am pretty aware of my space. I wonder what the security guards think of this exhibit?
SC didn't seem to care. They also had a pile of straws. One person's trash is another person's art?
I hope I don't offend;I actually really enjoyed other parts of the museum. The Degas exhibit was my favorite, and I am glad I got to see it. After all that excitement, SC was ready for a nap.
That evening the husband and I went back to the MoMa for a reception. We enjoyed looking at the art and mingling.
The husband was more impressed than SC had been earlier that day.
We headed back on Tuesday, and we were thankful for such a nice time! Even though it isn't easier to travel with a baby, we both agreed this was our favorite trip to the Big Apple!

Five for Friday

This week SC and I didn't do any traveling, and I felt like it gave us a chance to settle into a nice little routine.  This Sunday we are heading to the Big Apple, so wish us luck on our little trip!  It's SC's first time in the big city!

Since we've been home this week, I made it a goal to really get serious about giving SC her three pureed meals a day, in addition to breast milk/formula.  While it is definitely a messy project, she seems to be taking to it a lot better.  I had gotten stuck on the fact that she didn't like rice cereal, but trying grains flavored with fruit worked  (thank goodness).  I'm hoping we are on our way!
Wednesday was a beautiful and cool day, so I made sure to get a walk in outside and I also spruced up our balcony a bit.  These geraniums that my mom gave me for my birthday in March are still hanging on, which makes me happy.  My grandpa used to grow them, so I always think of him and my grandma when I see them.
My sister-in-law's shower will be a few weeks after SC's surgery, and since I don't know how recovery will be, I'm trying to pull everything together beforehand.  I was excited that the invites already arrived and I love these four canvases that I found at Home Goods.  I think they will look so cute in the nursery.  Today, I'm picking up the crib skirt that they wanted (somehow they are sold out online), so pretty soon I will have our gift pulled together!
I ordered some more necklaces that SC can use to teethe on and she really loves them.  I know most of you probably wouldn't be caught dead in one, but at this stage I can't wear other necklaces around her, so I will take what I can get!
This girl!
Happy Friday!  I hope you enjoy every moment of your weekend!

Life Lately and Baby Clothes!

It is only Tuesday, but for some reason the weekend already seems so far away!  We had a pretty quiet weekend, where the highlights included taking SC to the pool, me going jogging twice, and finally ordering my sister-in-law's baby shower invitations!  It sounds crazy, but it seemed like almost all of Sunday was spent trying to figure out baby shower logistics, but I think we are in pretty good shape now and these little invites have been ordered! The nursery theme is pink and gray with elephants, so I think these invites are pretty spot on.
I also cleaned out and organized SC's clothes on Saturday, and by the time we put away all the ones that were too small, we weren't left with too much. I've never been reluctant to buy her a few new things, so I ordered some outfits from Target including these.
When I did my weekly trip to Target yesterday, I also couldn't resist buying her this bathing suit.
This morning, I received an email that Gymboree had an additional 50% and free shipping, so I took a quick look online during SC's morning nap.  These little outfits were only $11, and I think they will be perfect if I have to dress up SC over the summer.

As much as I love dresses, little rompers work so much better at this stage. I end up being relatively practical about SC's clothes at this stage, because otherwise they just don't get used.  So, I think it is safe to say we are good on baby clothes for awhile!  How have you been lately?  Is anyone else as obsessed with baby clothes?  They are just so cute!

Five for Friday!

Happy Friday! I haven't had a chance to blog for a few days, so here is what I've been up to lately!

I took another mid-week trip to join my parents on another little vacation at Williamsburg.  My dad has very limited mobility, so we never do anything too strenuous, but we did visit Colonial Williamsburg for a little bit. My parents love seeing SC, so I am very thankful for this time.
Speaking of trips, we are taking SC to NYC in a week.  The husband has a work event that I am joining him for. I think we probably won't have any time to do any sight seeing, but I am just excited to go!

I love reading to SC, but I have to admit that I'm getting a little tired of Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Can You See?  and Moo Baa La La La...SC's two "favorites".  While reading Brown Bear for what felt like the millionth time, I remembered that I had read about Baby Lit books.  I decided to order Pride and Prejudice to see what it was like, and I love it so much I bought Sense and Sensibility.  You have to start the Jane Austen early, right?

SC had an early morning a few days ago, so the husband took SC to pick up some tulips and let me take a nap.  I have been enjoying them all week!
Speaking of which, sometimes I get a bit frustrated when SC wakes up earlier than I would like or gets up in the middle of the night. And then there are sunrises like this and I am reminded of how precious this time is.
Plus cute pjs don't hurt.
How has this week treated you? I hope you have a lovely weekend!
